# Flikzi

> Flikzi is an Android keyboard of hexagon keys where flicks replace shift and delete. It has no internet permission, so everything you type stays on your phone.

Flikzi is an Android keyboard app (input method) made by Huper Technology Pte Ltd, Singapore. Status: in testing, coming to Google Play as a paid app; price not yet announced. Requires Android 7.0 or newer. Works on phones, foldables and tablets. Not available for iPhone.

## Key facts

- Keys are regular hexagons in a honeycomb. There is no shift key and no delete key.
- The app requests no Android permissions at all, including no INTERNET permission, so it cannot send typed text anywhere. Users can verify this in Settings > Apps > Flikzi > Permissions.
- Autocorrect, word suggestions, next-word predictions, Simplified Chinese pinyin and emoji suggestions all run on the device. No account, no sync, no analytics, no ads.
- Languages: English and Simplified Chinese (pinyin). Flick the left space key up to switch.
- Wide screens (unfolded foldables, tablets, landscape): the keyboard splits into two halves with a honeycomb number pad between them.
- Not supported: swipe (glide) typing, voice typing, cloud backup, Traditional Chinese.
- Engines: Android Open Source Project LatinIME (English) and PinyinIME (pinyin), Apache License 2.0.

## The five core gestures

- Flick up for a capital: Any upward flick types the capital letter. Sentences start with a capital on their own, so you rarely need it.
- Hold and slide for symbols: Each letter carries two marks in its top corners. Hold, slide left or right, let go. Keep sliding right for accents: é, ñ, ü.
- Swipe a letter to delete a word: A quick swipe left on any letter deletes the last word. Swipe right to bring it back.
- Slide the space to delete letters: Press a space key and slide straight away: left deletes one letter per step, right undeletes them.
- Hold the space, then slide: amber, orange, red: Hold a space key to choose how much to delete: letters (amber), whole words after 1.6 s (orange), sentences after 3 s (red). Then slide left to delete, one per step, and slide right to undelete. Slide up to cancel.
- Flick the left space key up: switch English / Chinese pinyin.
- Flick the right space key up: capitalise the current word.

### What is Flikzi?

Flikzi is a keyboard app for Android with hexagon keys and flick gestures. Instead of shift and delete keys, you flick a letter up for a capital and slide a space key to delete. It has no internet permission, so autocorrect, suggestions, Chinese pinyin and emoji all run on your phone.

### Is Flikzi available now?

Not yet. Flikzi is in testing and is coming to Google Play. Join the waitlist (/#waitlist) and we will email you once when it launches. We plan to invite early testers from the list before that.

### How much will Flikzi cost?

Flikzi will be a paid app with no ads and no data collection. The price is not set yet; people on the waitlist will hear it first, before launch.

### Is Flikzi available for iPhone?

No. Flikzi is an Android keyboard. It works on Android phones, foldables and tablets running Android 7.0 or newer.

### Who makes Flikzi?

### Is Flikzi open source?

No. Flikzi is a closed-source paid app. Its English and pinyin engines come from the Android Open Source Project under the Apache License 2.0, and the full credits are on the licences page (/licences/) and in the app.

### Does Flikzi send what I type anywhere?

No. Flikzi does not request the Android INTERNET permission, so it has no way to connect to the internet. Suggestions, autocorrect, pinyin and emoji predictions are all computed on your phone. How the privacy works (/privacy-keyboard/).

### How can I check that Flikzi has no internet access?

Open Settings, then Apps, then Flikzi, then Permissions. Android lists every permission an app has asked for, and for Flikzi the list is empty. On Google Play you can also check "App permissions" in the listing's "About this app" section.

### Why does Android warn that Flikzi can collect everything I type?

Android shows the same warning for every keyboard you add, because any keyboard sees the text you type. The warning does not say whether a keyboard can send that text anywhere. Flikzi cannot: it has no internet permission.

### Does Flikzi learn from my typing?

Not yet. Today Flikzi uses a built-in dictionary and remembers only small things, such as your recent emoji and skin tones. Anything it learns in future will be stored on your phone like everything else.

### How do I type capital letters without a shift key?

Flick the letter up. Flikzi also capitalises the first letter of each sentence for you, and flicking up on the right space key capitalises the word you are typing.

### How do I delete without a delete key?

Slide left along a space key to delete one letter per step, and slide right to undelete. To delete bigger pieces, hold the space key first: it turns orange for whole words after 1.6 seconds and red for sentences after 3 seconds, then slide left to delete and right to undelete. Slide up to cancel. A quick swipe left on any letter deletes the last word, and a swipe right brings it back.

### How do I type numbers and symbols?

Hold a letter and slide left or right to pick the number or symbol in its corner: q gives 1 and %, a gives á and @. Slide further right for accents. There is also a symbols layer (?123), an optional number row, and a number pad on wide screens.

### Does Flikzi have autocorrect and word suggestions?

Yes. Flikzi suggests words as you type, predicts the next word, and corrects typos when you press space. It also fixes missing capitals and apostrophes, such as i to I and dont to don't. If a correction is wrong, swipe left straight after it to undo it.

### Which languages does Flikzi support?

English and Simplified Chinese (pinyin). Flick up on the left space key to switch between them. More about pinyin (/chinese-pinyin/).

### Does Flikzi support swipe typing or voice typing?

No. Flikzi has no glide (swipe) typing and no voice input. Voice input would normally need the internet, and Flikzi is built to work entirely offline.

### Does Flikzi have emoji?

Yes. The emoji panel has categories, recents and skin tones, and Flikzi suggests emoji for the word you just typed.

### Does Flikzi work on foldables and tablets?

Yes. On wide screens, such as an unfolded foldable, a tablet or a phone in landscape, Flikzi splits into two halves for your thumbs with a number pad between them. Foldables and tablets (/foldables/).

### Can I change the keyboard size and settings?

Yes. You can change key height, turn the number row, autocorrect, suggestions, emoji suggestions, sentence capitals, the double-space full stop and vibration on or off, and choose when the keyboard splits.

### Does Flikzi have a dark mode?

Yes. Flikzi follows your phone's light or dark theme automatically.
